Excerpts from a note by 2025 scholarship recipient Julian Jackson:

“… I am currently a Communications … student at College of the Redwoods with prospects of transferring to a four year university next year to get a BA in journalism, with a focus on investigative reporting.  I am also working as a stronger and intern for the KMUD Community Radio newsroom… I have always been interested in reporting the full story … I helped found and later ran my high school’s environmental club, and was involved with CR’s to install and maintain native plant gardens on their joint campus and the newly attached Humboldt Botanical Garden … along with doing various other practical land stewardship work around the county including with the Whitethorn BLM’s Nicks interns program.  … I’ve cohosted Witnessing the Environmental Apocalypse … on KMUD for over a year now, where I do specifically environmental journalism.  All of this work and my general attitude towards a globally stable environment for all living beings was not only inspired by my previous education at CR, with Environmental Science and Ethics classes … all of that was built upon what I learned by  living in a County so close to nature, with such a legacy of people who fought for it.  Including my parents, and the Earth First movement … along with many other figures I met and heard about throughout the local area, one … being … David Nathan “Gypsy” Chain.
